A very rare Edwardian punch bowl in the Armada style with wonderful chased and applied decoration. The chasing is superb with a profuse mix of floral scrolls to the main body and both baskets and bouquets of flowers to the top rim. There are three scroll cartouches which are engraved and flanked either side with winged mermen, between each cartouche is the head of a leopard. The main cartouche is engraved with a crest and motto - "Per Adua" (translates "Through Adversity") and it is here that the hallmarks are located. The other two cartouches are engraved with a presentation inscription to Colonel Hearn the Chief Constable of Staffordshire.
The quality of the bowl is first class with a hefty weight of 71 troy ounces and the polished condition gives this stunning bowl a real vitality.
