Caddy Spoon - Jockey Cap - Birmingham 1799 - 5.5cm long; 9.4g - CO/8671
This is a fine example of Georgian period novelty silver caddy spoon in the form of a jockey cap with a wide, brimmed peak.
The jockey cap caddy spoon was first introduced in 1797. This particular spoon is hallmarked for 1799 and although there is no maker's mark, an exact copy can be seen as plate 95a in "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated Guide" by John Norie - the example in the book is dated as 1801 and also with no maker's mark but attributed as probably by Thomas Willmore.
The spoon is in excellent condition.
