Tea Strainer - Dome-shaped - Dublin 1884 by West & Son - 6.5cm diameter; 3cm high; 31g - GD/5797a

Antique silver tea strainers for fitting in to the spouts of teapots are scarce and this is the first Irish example we have encountered.

Hallmarked in Dublin for the premier retailers West & Son, this dome-shaped tea strainer has a split peg for inserting inside a teapot spout and is attractively pierced in a flower-head form with engraved lines to the outside to enhance the effect. This form of strainer is designed to catch tea leaves as the beverage is being poured from the pot. This example remains in fine condition.
