Hash Spoon - Hanoverian Pattern - London 1746 by Richard Pargeter II - 35.2cm long; 220g - BV/4869

As can be seen in the comparative picture with a mid-18th century silver teaspoon, this is a huge Georgian silver serving spoon - also known as a hash or large basting spoon.

At 14" long and with a huge bowl, this is a very impressive spoon. Additionally, it has a very hefty weight and the condition is superb throughout with a thick tip to the rim of the bowl. The antique patina gives it a great feeling of age and the London hallmarks struck to the reverse side include the "RP" in script maker's mark of the spoonmaker Richard Pargeter II - Grimwade G3785 which is incorrectly ascribed to Robert Perth (Pertt).

This is a wonderful, George II period spoon in excellent condition with the bonus of an original engraved betrothal triangle to the reverse side: "T" over "W*G", where the "W" denotes the shared surname and the man's first name begins with "W" and the woman with "G".
