Table Spoon - Old English Pattern; Bright-cut Engraved - London 1790 by Hester Bateman - 21.7cm long; 59g - ED/6100

This is a good-looking bright-cut engraved silver table spoon in Old English pattern made by the renown Hester Bateman.

The spoon has a very attractive design to the front terminal around a nicely engraved script monogram "EL" with additional flourishes. The spoon is in excellent crisp condition, with a good bowl tip and a clear set of hallmarks.

The London hallmarks on this spoon show it to have been made in 1790 which was the year Hester Bateman retired and so precisely date the spoon between the end of May (when the date letter changed) and early December when her sons took over the running of the business. It must have been one of the final pieces to have left her workshop.
