This is a very rare, modern hand-made silver bowl made in Hull and stamped with the city's mark of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The bowl has been hand-raised and in typical arts & crafts tradition shows its original spot hammer (planishing) marks to both inside and outside. It was made by the Guild of Hull Silversmiths and bears Birmingham hallmarks with the makers mark J&KR and the Hull town mark described below.

The Guild of Hull Silversmiths was formed in 1976 with fifteen founding members. In 1983, the guild was given permission to use the City's Coat of Arms on silver made by its members. This mark, consisting of three ducal coronets, was previously used by Hull silversmiths in the 17th and early 18th centuries and last used by Abraham Barachin circa 1706.

Items from this East Yorkshire guild rarely appear on the market and this is a great example in fine condition.
