Tongue Scraper - London circa 1800 by John Death - 11.8cm long; 10g - VN/5804

We are offering a rare opportunity to purchase a Georgian silver tongue scraper.

Perhaps not the most acclaimed of item, but the tongue scraper was nevertheless an important hygiene related tool that was in use during the early 19th century. Made in London circa 1800, this silver example has a twist to the arms and is marked to both grips with the ID maker's mark for John Death. It remains in excellent condition.

This example is almost certainly the one illustrated in "Antique Medical Instruments" by Elisabeth Bennion p294 fig. 6.
