Shrub was a popular 18th century fruit liqueur made with rum or brandy and mixed with citrus fruits and sugar. This plain escutcheon label is incised "SHRUB" and is in fine condition throughout. It bears the distinctive lion passant for the 1739-55 period and the Gothic "RC" maker's mark of Robert Albin Cox that he used after gaining his freedom in 1752. Robert Albin Cox is a noted maker of tankards, coffee pots and other large-work, but also made a significant number of bottle tickets too.
