Georgian Sauce Tureen, 1797

Sold
Sauce Tureen - Fluted on Pedestal Foot - London 1797 by William Frisbee - 24cm long (incl. handle); 16.5cm high; 620g - EG/2174b
This fine quality silver sauce tureen is in the Neo-classical style with urn-shape on pedestal foot. This late 18th century sauce tureen stands out from other standard tureens of the period as most in the pedestal form are completely plain in appearance but this one differs in having a fluted design around the middle section. It has two side handles and a further top handle to the removable cover.
Made by the one time partner of Paul Storr, the quality is of the highest standard with a good hefty weight. The body is engraved to both sides with an engraved crest and twice more to the cover. The full set of hallmarks are located to the foot with corresponding marks to the rim of the cover. The condition is excellent throughout with a good, original patina.
We currently have another identical tureen in stock (following year and by a different maker) should you wish to have a pair.
