Meat Platter - Oval with Gadroon Border & Regimental Crest - London 1840 by John Houle - 55cm long x 43cm; 2840g - LA/3004

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a fabulous quality 21.5" long Victorian period silver serving platter or meat dish. This very large plate was made by John Houle who was one of the best largeworker silversmiths of the period . The edge of this oval tray is mounted with a gadroon border that oozes high quality. With a weight of 91 tr.oz. the plate has a very hefty feel and is a first rate quality item. The border on both sides is engraved with the regimental crest of the Royal Fusiliers and the motto for the Most Noble of the Order of the Garter "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense" (motto rubbed). It is in excellent condition although there is a network of typical knife scratches to the front surface.

Please see central photo below for the matching pair of 17" long dishes & final photo to left showing the suite of 3.
