French-style Fiddle & Thread Silver Table Spoon, Paul Storr
£330.00
Table Spoon - Fiddle & Thread Pattern (French-style) - London 1813 by Paul Storr - 21.2cm long; 95g - NW/7935
This is a high quality George III period silver table spoon by Paul Storr in fiddle & thread pattern.
Fiddle and thread was introduced into the UK in the early 1800's and was based on the French design. Most English examples have the terminal turning up (with raised decorative pip showing on the top), however this example follows the French tradition of turning down (pip on the underside). It was presumably made for a family more used to the French style and was perhaps a replacment for a missing piece.
The front terminal of this Regency spoon is expertly engraved with a family crest depicting an armoured hand holding a broken spear with the falling piece enveloped by a laurel wreath. This table spoon is in superb condition with clear London hallmarks.
