Caddy Spoon - Old English bead with Engraved Decoration - Exeter 1875 by Josiah Williams & Co. - 9.3cm long; 17g - DH/4697

Josiah Williams & Sons had their silversmithing workshop in Bristol and were the major user of the Exeter assay office throughout the middle/late 19th century. This lovely Victorian silver caddy spoon is an especially fine example of their wares.

The spoon has a bead edged handle with attractive engraving that flows in to the shell-shaped bowl. There is an original engraved crest featuring a cockerel to the terminal and a clear set of Exeter hallmarks for 1875 to the reverse - the assay office closed in 1882. It has a nice feeling of quality and is in excellent condition.
