Crested Irish Silver Caddy Spoon, c.1805
£160.00
Caddy Spoon - Fiddle Pattern - Dublin circa 1805 by Arthur Murphy - 10.9cm long; 10g - TP/5818
This handsome Irish silver caddy spoon was made by Arthur Murphy and is engraved to the front terminal with a crest.
This early 19th century fiddle pattern tea caddy spoon has a fluted bowl and the crest depicts a lion's head erased. It is in excellent condition.
The spoon is clearly hallmarked to the reverse side and although small Irish spoons were only partially marked at this time, this one can be pinpointed to having been made in either 1805 or 1806: Arthur Murphy registered his maker's mark at the Dublin assay office in 1805 and the marks do not include the necessary duty mark which was introduced in 1807. Murphy continued in business at his Skinner Row premises until 1809.
