£890.00
Dish Ring - Circular with Chased Scenes - London 1904 by Pairpoint Brothers - max. 19cm diameter; 9cm high; 356g - CH/5762
This is a fabulous quality example of a large Irish silver dish ring with charming scenes around the outside.
Made in London for the Irish market, this dish ring is decorated in a naive medieval style with pierced and chased scenes of rural folk and animals amidst floral scrolls. These are amongst the most sought after types of scene on these unusual and uniquely Irish pieces. This is a large example with a 7.5" diameter. It is in excellent all round condition with a large vacant assymetric cartouche to one side.
Dish rings were first made in Ireland during the mid-18th century. They were meant to hold hot plates and prevent scorching to the polished surfaces of sideboards and dining tables. Dish rings were revived at the end of the 19thC and early 20th Century and were generally replicas of the Georgian originals.
