Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a fine example of a Charles II period silver trefid spoon with a stunning set of hallmarks.

Made by the top maker John Smith, this table spoon has a striking reeded rattail and a bulbous trefid terminal. The condition is excellent with dot-prick engraved betrothal initials to the reverse terminal. All the punches within the hallmark are clear and legible and include a great example of the "IS" crowned maker's mark.

John Smith was an important specialist spoonmaker who was the linchpin within a long and important dynasty of spoonmakers starting in the mid-16th century with Nicholas Bartholomew and progressing into the next century via Smith's many apprentices including Lawrence Coles and William Matthew.
