Cast Silver Mussel Caddy Spoon, 1857 Higgins
Sold
Caddy Spoon - Cast Mussel - London 1857 by Francis Higgins - 8.5cm long; 29g gross weight - YT/3012
Francis Higgins made some of the most wonderful silver caddy spoons and the "mussel" is probably the most highly prized of them all.
Made during the mid-Victorian period, this exquisite antique silver caddy spoon has a deep bowl cleverly modelled as a mussel shell and a long, tendril handle applied with gilt, lily pad leaves and central flower head. It is as good in the hand as the photo suggest with a nice hefty weight too. This cast spoon is in fantastic condition with clear hallmarks to the reverse of the bowl and is a terrific example of its type.
