Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a pretty pair of Georgian silver sugar tongs made by Hester Bateman.

They are attractively decorated with bright-cut engraving and have a vacant cartouche to the outside of the bow. London-made sugar tongs of this period were not stamped with a date letter, however the presence of a good, clear example of the incuse duty mark gives a very accurate period of manufacture as this punch was only used from December 1784 to May 1786. The opposing arm bears a good example of the iconic "HB" in script maker's mark for this important lady silversmith.

The sugar tongs are in fine, antique condition.
