Bright-cut Silver Caddy Spoon, 1784 Incuse Duty
Sold
Caddy Spoon - Bright-cut Engraved - London 1784 by William Brockwell - 9.6cm long; 9.5g - CO/9423
William Brockwell was a top silver caddy spoon maker of the late 18th century and this example is typical of his eye-catching creations.
The deep, waisted bowl with the handle bifurcating either side is a trademark feature of his spoons and this is a particularly handsome example. The handle is attractively decorated with bright-cut engraving and there are no personalised engravings to the cartouche.
The spoon is in superb condition with a set of clearly struck London hallmarks to the underside that include a great example of the incuse duty mark that was in use for just 18 months. A fine spoon!
