The Service
We are pleased to be offering this superb silver canteen of cutlery in Hanoverian Rattail Pattern. This complete dining service provides for eight pieces per 10 place settings with additional serving spoons and a carving set.
This service was made in Sheffield with every piece bearing hallmarks for 2005 and made by the cutlers Arthur Price. Each piece benefits from being in excellent polished condition with no personalised engravings and the canteen is attractively presented in a wooden box.
This set forms the standard 7 piece service per place setting (with both tea and coffee spoons present) and with four table spoons and a sauce ladle for serving purposes. The silver handled knives in the service are fitted with Sheffield made stainless steel blades.
Hanoverian Rattail Pattern
Hanoverian Rattail was first in fashion between 1710 and 1730 and has been reproduced since the 1880’s. It was the first flatware pattern in the UK to be used for complete canteens. Due to its elegant lines and proportions it has continued to enjoy great popularity and is probably the most sought after traditional pattern. The front of each piece has a distinctive central ridge and there is the diagnostic rattail extension to the handle on the reverse sides.
