The Service

We are pleased to be offering an excellent boxed set of Fiddle pattern silver cutlery with 8 place settings. This canteen provides for seven pieces for each sitting and a useful array of serving items.

The table service is nicely presented in its original wooden box with each piece having its own slot to prevent scuffing with neighbours. It was supplied by the prestigious Edinburgh retailer Hamilton & Inches and has fiddle pattern spoons and forks complemented by pistol grip silver handled knives that are engraved to the stainless steel blades with the name of the retailer.

Fiddle Pattern

Fiddle Pattern was the dominant flatware pattern of 19th Century Britain. It was by far the most popular pattern from 1810 until 1880. Production was largely discontinued in 1914, as the original dies for hand wrought fiddle pattern were destroyed during the First World War. The pattern has rarely been made since, so this set is especially useful in having round-bowl soup spoons that were not originally made in the pattern (oval-bowled table spoons used instead).

Presentation

This canteen is offered in its original wooden box with individual slots for every piece. The box is in fine condition with some minor scratches to the top and front. The key is present.
