65 piece King's Pattern Canteen of Silver CUTLERY & FLATWARE, SHEFFIELD 1960/61 by Gee & Holmes for Harrods
We are pleased to be offering a lovely quality boxed silver 6 place settings canteen in Kings Pattern. This canteen is in near mint, polished condition and was originally retailed by Harrods of London.
The service provides all the main requirements for a 4 course meal with 10 pieces per place setting, a pair of serving spoons and carving set. The carving set comprises a knife, fork (with guard) and sharpening steel – all fitted with hallmarked silver handles and stainless steel component parts.
The twelve knives also have hallmarked silver handles and stainless steel blades which are engraved “Harrods London G&H Cutlers & Silversmiths”.
Each piece bears a full set of English Sterling standard silver hallmarks for Sheffield 1960/61 and made by Gee & Holmes (G&H maker’s mark).
King's Pattern
King's Pattern is the most well-known and popular decorative flatware pattern. It was based on an 18th century French design and became fashionable amongst the wealthy in the early years of the 19th Century. The design encompasses a shell to both sides of the handle terminal and reverse of the bowl, and there are scrolls down the handle shaft with a honeysuckle motif to the centre. The double-struck nature of the pattern (i.e. pattern on both sides) ensures that a good gauge of silver was used in manufacture.

Condition
Mint! Excellent polished condition throughout. There are no personalised engravings. The box is in very good condition, but there is no key and there are quite a number of fine scratches to the top surface.
Presentation
This canteen is presented within its original wooden box. The box measures 49cm wide x 36cm deep x 10cm high and has the knives slotted in to the lid.
