Bodkin - Plain with Trefoil Finial - Circa 1620 - 12.6cm long; 11.8g - DH/6678</p>

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This plain silver bodkin with trefoil terminal is typical of the James I/Charles I periods and has a pierced slit and eye. The bodkin bears original engraved "MC" initials to one side and the piece is typically unmarked, but in fine condition throughout. The main function of a bodkin was to thread bands of cords through corsets and other items of clothing. The ribbon or cord was threaded through the rectangular slit. Another use for bodkins was to punch holes in leather and other textiles or to be used like a needle. The small eye was used for hanging it up or suspending it from a belt or chatelaine.
