Bead Silver Sugar Tongs by Hester Bateman
Sold
Sugar Tongs - Bead Pattern - London circa 1780 by Hester Bateman - 13.5cm long; 35g - UP/6692
This handsome pair of George III period silver sugar tongs are an exquisite example of Hester Bateman's work.
They have an elegant, wavy shape with beaded edge and the beading even goes around the circular cups. The tongs can be accurately dated from the working period of Hester Bateman (c1770 to 1790), the omission of the duty mark (must be pre-1784) and the bead edging (fashionable circa 1775-1785).
The condition is fabulous with crisp decoration, no personalised engravings (nor erasures), clear "HB" makers mark and lion passant mark and a lovely antique patina.
