Runcible Spoon - Old English Pattern - Sheffield 1901 by W.S.Savage & Co. - 14.1cm long; 26.5g - GY/7934a

This is a lovely example of an antique silver runcible spoon in Old English pattern complete with original engraved initial "C" to the front terminal.

Runcible spoons were used for serving pickles and chutney and made famous by Edward Lear in his nonsense rhymes - The Owl & The Pussy Cat ("They dined on mince and slices of quince, which they ate with a runcible spoon") and Twenty-Six Nonsense Rhymes and Pictures ("The Dolomphious Duck, who caught Spotted Frogs for her dinner with a Runcible Spoon").

Made during the Edwardian period by WS Savage & Company, this hallmarked silver runcible spoon remains in excellent condition with a clear set of Sheffield hallmarks.
