9ct Gold Caddy Spoon - Circa 1800 - Jockey Cap - 4.5cm long; 4.5g - AP/3062
This is a very rare example of a gold jockey cap caddy spoon dating from the early period of jockey cap production.
Jockey caps were first produced in Birmingham in 1797 and this example will date from those early few years and almost certainly have been made by Joseph Taylor or Samuel Pemberton. It is unmarked because Birmingham did not have gold hallmarking facilities until the 1820's. The spoon has been XRF tested and is confirmed as 9 carat gold.
The spoon takes the typical form with a plain cap and button and a textured visor and ribbon tie to the back. The spoon is in generally fine condition but there are a couple of very minor creases to the visor that are visible to the plain underside.
