Gold Armada Dish - London 1966 by Reid & Sons - 15.2cm diameter; 3cm high; 228g - NP/3760

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a rare opportunity to buy a fine quality 9 carat gold dish. This dish is in the Armada style, which is also sometimes called an alms dish or Elizabethan dish.

The original Armada Dish was in a service of 22 pieces owned by Sir Christopher Harris, with the pieces being hallmarked between1581 and 1601. The dishes were buried during the civil war and recovered in the early 20th century. This dish is a faithful copy of the original design even down to the staggered nature of the hallmarks.

These dishes are very popular as they are beautifully elegant and multi-purpose in function. The 375 (9ct) hallmarks are clearly struck to the top edge and the bowl has a good hefty weight. This is a perfect way of buying usable gold bullion as an investment - three years ago this dish was worth over £3000 in metal value and who knows what the future price might be!
