12 Place Settings King’s Pattern 90 piece Canteen of Cutlery, Sheffield 1900 by John Round

The Service

We are pleased to be offering a straight silver service in Kings Pattern with 12 place settings and each setting having 7 pieces, with the bonus of additional serving pieces.

All the spoons and forks, except the teaspoons, were made by John Round and bear Sheffield hallmarks for 1900. The teaspoons are excellent accompaniments and apart from the earlier hallmarks (London 1849/50) they look the same as the rest of the service. The serving pieces consist of 4 table spoons and a pair of sauce ladles. The 24 silver handled knives are hallmarked Sheffield 1987 by William Yates and are fitted with stainless steel blades.

All the pieces in this late Victorian period service are in excellent polished condition and benefit from having no personalised engravings and none have been removed.

King's Pattern

King's Pattern is the most well-known and popular of the decorative flatware patterns. It was based on an 18th century French design and became fashionable amongst the wealthy in the early years of the 19th Century. The design encompasses a shell to both sides of the handle terminal and reverse of the bowl, scrolls down the handle shaft with a honeysuckle motif to the centre. The double-struck nature of the pattern (i.e. pattern on both sides) ensures that a good gauge of silver was used in manufacture.
