The Service
We are proud to be offering a very rare opportunity to purchase a canteen of silver cutlery made by the most important British silversmith of the 20th century – Omar Ramsden.
This excellent silver table service consists of 6 place settings in the hand-wrought Ribbed Rattail Pattern. Each spoon and fork has a flattened ribbed handle tapering towards the shoulders and continued to form a narrow rib akin to a rattail beneath the spoon bowls and along the central tine of the forks. The table and dessert knives are fitted with stainless steel blades and engraved, “Omar Ramsden, Artist Goldsmith, London”, whilst the fish knives have silver blades.
The service provides for ten pieces per 6 place settings. Each piece was hand-wrought and has a superb organic feeling to it with a good hefty weight in the hand. Even the knives, which are often lightweight, have a really substantial feel about them and weigh approx. 130 grams each.
All the pieces are hallmarked for London 1928 and marked with the sought after “OR” maker’s mark.
This is one of the finest canteens of cutlery that you are likely to ever find!
