This is a beautiful and good quality bachelor sized silver tea service dating from the late Victorian period. It is superbly chased with floral scrolls and the main feature being that each piece has a portrait to one side and a vacant cartouche to the other. The teapot has a portrait of Pan playing his pipes and the cream jug & sugar bowl have portraits of nymphs. This is a lovely quality set with a good, sturdy feel in the hand and gilt interiors to the creamer and sucriere. The condition is excellent throughout with crisp, chased decoration. The colour of the wooden teapot handle is a little worn from use, but the patina gives it an attractive two-tone effect.

Pan was half man, half goat and was the Greek God of Nature and Shepherds.
