Soup Ladle - London 1931 (import) by Georg Jensen - 32cm long; 163g - LC/6122

This is a wonderfully elegant silver soup ladle and an early example made by Georg Jensen.

At 12.5" long, this is a good-sized ladle that has the feeling of the highest quality. The ebony section to the handle will protect the user from heat and the ovoid bowl has a pouring lip to either side. In typical arts & crafts tradition, the ladle retains its original planishing (hammer) marks from the hand-raising process and a long rattail extension to the reverse of the bowl just adds to the overall pleasing appearance of the piece.

The plethora of marks to the reverse of the shank indicate that the ladle was made in Denmark (Copenhagen city mark and CHF assay master mark for Christian F. Heise) at the Georg Jensen workshop in 925 Sterling silver and imported in to the UK by his agent George Stockwell and hallmarked at the London Assay Office in 1922.

This fabulous silver soup ladle remains in superb condition.
