Wine Ewer - Bulbous with Engraved Decoration - London 1869 by Arthur Sibley - 33.5cm high; 1500ml capacity; 869g - LC/4052

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a fabulously imposing silver wine ewer with a bulbous body, narrow neck and pedestal foot. Also known as a claret jug, this piece has an engraved band of bell flower and anthemion motifs around the shoulder and towards the base, plus a nicely shaped silver handle. The elegant spout is fitted with a cleverly made flush hinge that will naturally open when the wine is poured. There is an engraved crest of a lion to the front above a cipher and surmounted by the motto "Parcere Subjectis". This large Victorian ewer has a good weight and is in excellent polished condition.
