Wine Label - White Wine; engraved escutcheon - London circa 1735 by Sandilands Drinkwater - 5.5cm x 3.5cm - UJ/4415c

This is a great example of a very early silver wine label. This escutcheon-shaped WHITE WINE label has engraved vine and grapes around the border. The label is marked twice to the reverse side with the pre-1739 lion passant and a fine example of the "S*D" mark of the specialist bottle ticket maker Sandilands Drinkwater. This mark was entered in 1735 and replaced by the more commonly found script mark in 1739. The label is in excellent condition.
