Victorian Silver Mounted Claret Jug, 1891
£695.00
Claret Jug - Cut-glass Body & Engraved Silver Mounts - Sheffield 1891 by Martin & Hall - 20.5cm high, 90 grams gross weight; 1200ml volume - Ref: KM/5504
This is a very attractive glass claret jug with Sheffield hallmarked silver mounts for Martin & Hall dating the piece to the late Victorian period.
The claret jug has an expertly cut hob-nail design in a festoon to the upper section of the globular, glass body. The silver mounts are beautifully engraved and include a cipher to one cartouche and a spherical finial to the hinged cover. With a maximum capacity of over a litre, this pitcher is plenty big enough to take a full, standard bottle of wine. It remains in excellent condition with neither damage nor repair to either the glass or the silver.
