Urn of Flowers Picture-front Mote Spoon, c.1760
Sold
Mote Spoon - Urn of Flowers Picture-front - London circa 1760 by George Morris - 13.5cm long - AP/5351
We have never previously encountered this form of silver mote spoon before - it has a picture-front motif depicting an urn of flowers.
A major benefit of locating the motif to the front is the lack of wear normally associated with table contact as this urn of flowers remains very crisp with all detail visible. The bowl is pierced so that the poured tea can be skimmed for the removal of dust motes and the teminal has a prominent spike that can clean clogged up teapot spouts.
The shank is stamped with a lion passant and GM maker's mark for George Morris. This antique mote spoon remains in excellent condition.
