Unusual Georgian Silver Cream Jug, 1780 Rob't Hennell
Sold
Cream Jug - Helmet-shape - London 1780 by Robert Hennell - 15.3cm tall; 138g - HD/4949
The helmet-shaped silver cream jug was popular throughout the final quarter of the 18th century and generally consisted of an upright, wide-spouted jug standing on a pedestal foot with a vase-shaped body. The jug being offered is a rare, early variation of this by having an unusual baluster-shaped body.
Made by the premier silversmith Robert Hennell, this cream jug has an elegant looped handle and a beaded mounted to the top rim that reflects the fashion of the period. It benefits from being in excellent condition with neither damage nor repair and is fully hallmarked to the underside of the foot.
