Sweetmeat Basket, 1795

This is a very pretty and dainty Georgian silver basket. The basket has a swing handle and blue glass liner, The attractive piercing to the body shows off the blue glass to good effect. There is also a chased festoon around the body. The hallmarks are located to the underside of the pedestal foot and although the maker's mark is part worn it is almost certainly the "SM" mark of Samuel Meriton.
