£185.00

Wine Label - Mountain; Bright-cut Crescent - London circa 1780 by Susanna Barker - 4.2cm wide - MN/7021

This is an attractive silver wine label with the scarce title "MOUNTAIN" and made by the lady silversmith Susanna Barker.

Made during the early George III period, this crescent-shaped bottle ticket has an engraved bright-cut border that was the height of fashion at the time. The reverse side is clearly stamped with two "SB" punches for this lady silversmith, dating the label to before 1784 (introduction of duty mark). This good-looking wine label is in excellent condition.

Mountain is a sweet dessert wine from the hills around Malaga in Spain and was the predecessor of Sherry in the UK, being replaced by the latter circa 1790.
