Sugar Sifter Spoon - Pointed Stem - Sheffield 1787 by Matthew Fenton and Richard Creswick - 14.2cm long; 13g - BH/8779a

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a most unusual silver sugar sifter spoon having been made in Sheffield during the 18th century and as such would have been a departure from the normal working activities of the silversmithing partnership that made the spoon. This can be seen in the naive way in which the spoon has been constructed with simple drill holes to the deep round bowl and basic solder join for the long pointed handle. This charming spoon is in good order with no engravings.

The presence of the early Sheffield hallmarks to the reverse stem is a major plus. Matthew Fenton and Richard Creswick were the second entry in the new Sheffield Assay Office, registering their mark on September 13th 1773.
