Sugar Nips - London circa 1765 by John Faux & George Love - 12.7cm long; 38g - TO/5669

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

These are an unusual pair of Georgian silver sugar nips or tea tongs with a ribbed effect along the outer edges of both arms and shanks. In all other ways this piece resembles contemporary tea tongs, but this unusual decorative addition gives them an interesting variation. The hallmarks are punched in the usual way to the finger rings, although it was a bit ambitious to stamp the whole of the maker's mark - consequently the "GL" part is clear on one ring and the middle section showing it to be a partnership on the other ring. Excellent condition throughout with no repairs.
