Goblet - Molten Base - London 1977 by Stuart Devlin - 16.5cm high; 8cm diameter top rim; 6cm diameter base; 150ml volume; 208g - MV/5431
During the 1970's, goblets were one of Stuart Devlin's mainstays and many were decorated with the bark texturing for which he is so renown. However, less commonly seen is the fabulous and very clever decoration seen in this example where the gilt base appear to be molten and dripping down the stem. It gives the piece an animate feeling with movement and liveliness. In contrast, the conical cup has a gentle planished finish and is gilt to the interior. The condition is excellent throughout with clear hallmarks including the sought after "SD" maker's mark and Queen's Silver Jubilee commemorative mark.
