Skewers (3) - Paxton Pattern - London 1865 by George Adams - 15.7cm, 26.3cm and 37cm long; 255g combined weight - JE/6612

This is an excellent quality and very rare set of graduated meat skewers in Paxton pattern made by George Adams of Chawner & Company.

The skewers vary in size from a 6" long skewer (ideal for small poultry), a medium sized skewer (small meat joints or larger poultry) and a larger 14.5" skewer (for large joints). Skewers were used to present meat at the dinner table and provide evidence of being well-cooked.

Each of these skewers is stamped with London hallmarks and attractively decorated to their heads with the lovely design of Paxton pattern around a stag's head crest. The crest belongs to the Scottish branch of the Fraser family. The decoration remains crisp throughout and the skewers are in fine condition with a few scratches from use.

Paxton pattern was named in honour of the famous Victorian architect Joseph Paxton who is best known for designing the Crystal Palace built for the Great Exhibition of 1851.

We currently have a good stock of Paxton Pattern, including a full dinner service for 12 or more.
