Hester Bateman Antique Silver Meat Skewer, 1784
Reserved
Meat Skewer - Finger Ring Terminal - London 1784 by Hester Bateman - 25.5cm long; 61g - HT/6272
A great example of a Georgian silver skewer made by Hester Bateman.
At 10" long, the skewer is ideal for presenting cooked meat or poultry to the table and could be used for all but the very largest beef joints. The skewer has a finger ring at the end and is engraved with both an original family crest and the owner's initials. The all-important London hallmarks are in superb condition and not only feature the sought after Hester Bateman maker's mark but also a great example of the scarce incuse duty mark that was used for just a short period of time.
The skewer bears typical knife scratch marks from use but is otherwise in fine condition.
