Seal Top Spoon, 1641

Spoon - Seal top - London 1641 by Thomas Hodges - 15.7cm long; 39g - KV/5270
A great example of a late Charles I period seal top spoon by a lesser known maker of the period. The TH makers mark is shown in "London Silver Spoonmakers 1500-1697" by Tim Kent. The spoon has a nicely decorated seal finial with original "HG" over "MG" betrothal initials to the flat plate. The spoon is in fine condition with an unworn bowl, although it is slightly flattened to the underside from table contact. The spoon benefits from having a good clear set of hallmarks. A good example of its type.
