Table Spoons (6) - Modernist Rattail - London 1953 by Leslie Durbin - 19.7cm long; 437g - CJ/6468

An outstanding set of six good-sized silver spoons by Leslie Durbin!

Due to post-war austerity and high taxation on luxury goods, silver from the 1950's tends to be scarce, however the handful of working artisan silversmiths made some fine quality pieces and the work of Leslie Durbin particularly stands out. At just under 8" long, these spoons are no exception and were probably intended for use as soup spoons, however they could equally be applied to other uses. They have a very elegant Modernist form with a long, tapering triangular handle and deep bowl - all spot hammered from being hand-wrought. Each piece has a good, hefty weight in the hand and they are all in fine condition with clear LGD maker marks and the addition of the Queen Elizabeth II coronation commemorative mark.
