This good sized pin cushion is in the form of a two funnelled steam ship called the Royal George. There is a propellor to the stern and the name of the ship is emblazoned in raised lettering to one side of the bow. The red pad is original, although wearing a little in place, and the pin cushion as a whole is in excellent condition.

 

The SS Heliopolis was a twin funnelled, two- masted ship built in Glasgow in 1907 and was subsequently re-named the Royal George in 1910. She served as a troop carrier during World War 1 (including service in the Gallipoli campaign, 1915) and returned to service as a liner on the North Atlantic routes to New York with Cunard in 1919, before being retired in 1920.
