Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This oval silver bowl is typical of the very high quality one would expect from Omar Ramsden & Alwyn Carr and consequently has a very hefty weight.

The deep bowl has been hand-made and the original spot-hammer marks are showing throughout in typical arts & crafts style. The two side handles are adorned with Tudor rose motifs and the inside rim has been expertly chased with an original inscription: "I was wrought for Ruth Margaret Taylor by command of her Godmother Margaret Louise". Chased inscriptions were far more complex than engraving and entailed a great deal of silversmithing skill. Aside from the creations of Omar Ramsden (& Alwyn Carr), chased inscriptions are rarely found on silverware and will no doubt have added significant cost to this piece.

The underside is stamped with London hallmarks and is engraved with the Latin inscription "Omar Ramsden et Alwyn Carr Me Fecerunt" (Omar Ramsden and Alwyn Carr made me).
