R E Stone Quaich, 1936 Aspreys

This is a fabulous Art Deco quaich made by one of the UK's leading silversmiths of the movement - Robert Edgar Stone and retailed by Aspreys. The body retains a hammered finish - evidence of the quaich being hand-wrought. The Quaich was made to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VIII in 1936 as can be seen by the crown depicted in the handles. However, the coronation never took place due to his abdication in December 1936, but as the crown is the only royal symbol on the quaich, it meant that the piece could still be used the following year for King George VI's coronation. It is in excellent original condition with RE Stone's facsimile signature to the underside and Asprey's stamp and makers mark within the hallmark.
