Queen Anne Silver Marrow Scoop, 1709 Henry Greene
Sold
Marrow Scoop - Reversible - London 1709 by Henry Greene - 20.8cm long; 47g - PX/4536
This is a fine example of a Queen Anne period silver marrow scoop made by Henry Greene.
Bearing Britannia standard hallmarks to indicate the higher purity of silver used in its manufacture, this double-ended marrow-fat eating utensil has differently sized scoops either side of a central shank for prizing out the tasty morsels. The shank bears the full set of early 18th century London hallmarks, including the "Gr" maker's mark for Henry Greene (a specialist spoonmaker who had been apprenticed to Thomas Allen and gained his freedom in 1700) .
This marrow scoop remains in fine condition with just some scratching to the inside of the larger bowl.
