Sold
Wine Label - Port; Escutcheon - London circa 1760 by Richard Binley - 5.1cm long; 11.3g - YR/4903
Richard Binley was one of the important, early specialist makers of silver wine labels. Apprenticed to Sandilands Drinkwater, he had a relatively short working period during the early 1760's and following his death the business was continued by his widow Margaret.
This escutcheon-shaped silver PORT label bears his distinctive mark and is a fine example of the type. The title is pierced and the bottle ticket is in excellent condition.
