Floral Caddy Spoon with Pierced Bowl, 1803

Caddy Spoon - Floral engraved with pierced bowl - Birmingham 1803 by Samuel Pemberton - 8.2cm long - Ref. No.: PE/7719
A beautiful example of a trademark Pemberton caddy spoon. The simple one piece spoon with pear-shaped bowl is a distinctive Pemberton design; the form and degree of decoration affecting both the spoons' overall beauty and desirability. The pierced border, cleverly cut-out leaves and the pretty floral engraving make this a most pleasing example.
The terminal of this spoon is engraved with a betrothal triangle (the upper "P" being the surname and the R" and "H" the forenames) suggesting that the spoon was originally most likely given as a wedding gift. Excellent condition throughout.
See "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated Guide" by John Norie, plate 43h for a very similar example by the same maker.
